Thiruvithuvakodu or Thirumittakodu, is one of the 108 divya desam temples situated in Kerala. It is very near Pattambi railway station. This is one of the place where the Panch Pandavas perfrmed penance.
According to legends, this temple was built by Dharmaputra, one of the Pandavas.
As you enter the temple you can see a sannidhi for Sivan and back to this is Perumal sannidhi facing the river Bharatha Puzha
There are four sannithis for Perumal. As per legend King Ambareesh prayed to Sri Narayanan for Viyugha Avathaar darshan (perumal will be seen in all the four directions). Thus there are four sannidhis for Sir Narayanan facing each direction.
The deity in the center was said to have been worshipped by Dharman, the one in the west was worshipped by Arjunan, one on the left side was worshipped by Bheeman and the deity on the right side was said to have been worshipped by Nakulan and Sahadevan.
The temple is situated in a serene place among lush greenery near the river Bharathapuzha. As you enter you can see the Sivan sannidhi and you go around towards the back to enter into the perumal sannidhi. The entrance to this sannidhi is small and you have to literally climb over a small garinte wall of three feet. The reason for this could have been to prevent the river water entering into the temple when the river swells.
The Moolavar here is Uyyavantha Perumal. He is found in Nindra Thirukkolam facing the south. Prathyaksham for King Ambhareeshan.
